All Saints’ Sunday

Sunday, November 2 in 11:00 a.m. worship.

On Sunday, November 2, in our worship service, we will celebrate a most meaningful occasion. Each year, on All Saints Sunday, we remember the first saints (those in the Bible), the saints in Christian history, and our own PBBC saints who have gone to be with the Lord in the past year. We also remember our personal saints; those beloved Christian friends and family members who may not have been members of our church, but who were powerful examples of the faith to us.

We remember all of these, in part, with the use of a beautiful red banner which has the words “For All the Saints” embroidered on it. The banner will be in the church foyer for the month of October and everyone is invited, any time you are at church, to fill out a dedication card with the name(s) of your deceased loved ones on it, and to pin a bell or bells on the banner in their memory. We will also use the cards to create a worship guide insert. As for the banner, you may pin as many bells on it as the number of names on your card, or less. Prior to the service, we will make sure that all names are represented on the banner by a bell. During the service, the banner will be brought forward as we sing the hymn “For All the Saints.” From there, we will continue remembering our PBBC saints who went to be with the Lord this year, with the reading of their eulogies. It is a very moving service. You will want to be present. This year’s saints we’ll be remembering are: Betty Lou Pigg, Ronnie Pigg and Deborah Hite.

Regular Monthly Events

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

AA meetings happen in our church fellowship hall each Monday night at 7:00 p.m.

We are glad to house this very important ministry.

Monthly Community Meal

Each third Thursday of the month our members come together to provide a hot, nutritious meal for our community.

Usually feeding 50 to 70 friends from Henry County and Martinsville, we begin with a brief devotion and a time of prayer, followed by the serving of the meal, complete with dessert. When all have been served, we join our guests to eat and converse around the tables. In addition to providing a needed service to our community, this ministry has been a blessing to our homebound members, as we also take meals to them.

Pickers and Fiddlers Bluegrass and Gospel Musicfest

“Pickers and Fiddlers” is a 2-hour gospel, bluegrass and mountain music program which meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month in our fellowship hall.

It began in 2009 so it is now beginning its 16th year. Singers and musicians from around the area join together to share their talents. Some come from as far away as Roanoke and Patrick County.

We invite folks of any skill level to come, bring their instruments and play along. Pickers and Fiddlers is free of charge, and we offer free beverages and breakfast pastries that are also free of charge. Not even a love offering is ever taken.

Come on out and join us any 2nd Saturday of the month! It’s a great time!

Community Bible Study

Initiated sometime around 2017, this Bible study met in one of the rooms in the JD Bassett Event Center on Wednesday mornings from 11:00 a.m. to noon.

The attendees come from several of the Christian churches in our area. Among them are Methodists, Brethren, Disciples of Christ, and Baptists, so we have quite an interesting and varied perspective on the scriptures. Bible book based, our method is to read through a book, while also learning about its author and historical context. Most recently, we have studied the books of Hebrews, the gospel of John, and the letters of John. We are presently studying the gospel of Luke. Come and join us!
